Special Educational Needs & Disabilities
At All Saints we maintain an inclusive ethos and recognise the importance of providing a stimulating and caring environment in order that every child, irrespective of their ability can achieve his/her potential. Every effort is made to ensure that children with special educational needs are fully integrated into the life of the school. Our Special Educational Needs Policy describes the procedures and systems which have been established within the school. Arrangements to Support SEND
At All Saints we want every child to acquire the skills to maximise their potential in all areas of life. This includes academics, emotional well-being and physicality. Teachers are all supported by at least one teaching assistant in the class, sometimes more, depending on the needs of the individuals in the class.
We are keen to work closely with parents, recognising the link between home and school is vitally important to a child’s progress. Parents and teachers are able to discuss any concerns at an early stage, with subsequent meetings being arranged as and when appropriate. The child’s needs will be discussed, intervention strategies identified and targets set so that progress can be measured in subsequent meetings. It may be that the Special Needs & Disability Co-ordinator (SENDCo) will be involved with these meetings.
Although we are keen to include all children in every lesson, there will be times when it is appropriate to provide additional support in small groups or on a 1:1 basis outside the classroom. Examples of this include:
How We Provide Support
Teachers produce details of the support activities provided for children in their classes, identifying when these activities will take place, who will lead the support and who will benefit from the support. Targets are identified and reviewed at Pupil Progress Meetings (approximately every six weeks).
To support the class teacher and teaching assistants, we have a Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) teacher who will work with children identified as needing additional support above and beyond that provided in the classroom. A trained Speech and Language (S&L) Leader supports Teaching Assistants in the delivery of S&L interventions across the school and an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) works with children who will benefit from additional support.
We are very proud of the progress children with special educational needs make while at All Saints and once they move on to secondary school. We want all children to be able to access the full curriculum as well as the numerous extra-curricular activities on offer at the school and will ensure no child is excluded from an activity because of their special needs.
