Dear Parents & Carers,
I am aware that it is increasingly difficult to obtain a COVID-19 test in this area. I know of one local person who was offered a test in Newport, Gwent (South Wales). This is an unacceptably long distance to travel for a test (especially if you are ill or having to take a child for testing) and I have today been in touch with both the Borough and Theresa May, the MP for the area, to express my concerns with the lack of testing capacity in Maidenhead.
I have had responses from both.
The local authority has raised the issue as a concern with Public Health England and the Department of Health and Social Care. They advise anyone with symptoms seeking a test is to log on to the National Portal as early as possible in a morning as the National Portal appears to be closing by midday once the testing cap is reached. The Borough is also petitioning for more mobile test units to increase capacity and has promised to advise me when these are in the area, so that I can pass it on to you.
Mrs May's office has explained that she is aware of the current issues around testing and she has asked that if you are unable to get tests - especially for your children - you should email her office with the following information:
* An explanation of where and how they have tried to get a test and the options, if available
* Your full address
The email to use is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Mrs May has a direct link with the COVID correspondence team and will forward the concerns on.
Thanks for reading this update and do write to Mrs May, as your MP, to let her know about issues you are having with testing. Equally, petition your local councillor. Together, as a community, we will get through this.
Stay safe; keep happy; be kind.
