An email to the parents & carers of Class 5.3 from Mr Rhodes:
Subject: Class Teacher 5.3
Dear Parents & Carers,
I am pleased to be able to tell you that Ms Fleck will be making a phased return to work from this week. Until she has returned to full-time hours, she will be sharing the teaching of 5.3 with Miss McKie.
Currently, Ms Fleck is focusing on the writing of 5.3's interim reports and our hope is that they can be issued to you, at the same time as the publication of other class reports, this coming Friday. Appointments for parental consultations will be opened up for your class to book soon once the possible slots have been agreed with Ms Fleck.
Regarding Miss Mckie: she has, unfortunately, not been able to get into work this week due to what is hoped to be a minor back injury. In the meantime, this week, a supply teacher - under the direction of Year Group Leader Mrs Eaton-Price - has covered the class today and will do so again tomorrow. The Year 5 HLTA, Mrs Sawle, covered on Monday and will do so again on Thursday morning and Friday afternoon. The scheduled PPA teacher, Mrs Cosser, will be with the class on Thursday afternoon and - assuming this all goes to plan - Ms Fleck will be with your children this Friday morning.
I would like to thank you and your children for your patience and support recently and hope that, going forward, things will settle down for your children with both Ms Fleck and Miss Mckie as teachers over the next few weeks.
In the event of any of these plans being changed I shall, of course, be back in touch.
With all good wishes,
Richard D Rhodes,
Please send the PE kit to school on a Monday and children will be reminded to take the PE kit home on a Friday. We hope to maximise participation and enjoyment in our indoor and outdoor PE classes.
Having the correct PE kit is part of having all the necessary equipment to ensure a great day of learning.
Children have also been asked to organise all the necessary equipment ready on their desks in the morning.
This should include:
- blue handwriting pen,
- ruler (ideally 30cm in total),
- red pen,
- pencil sharpener and
It would be helpful if all children could bring their own equipment in a pencil case. We do have additional stationery including red pens and glue available in class where necessary and a limited amount of handwriting pens and pencil for borrowing.
All children are expected to read for at least 15 minutes each evening. Each child has a reading record that should be signed by an adult to show that they have been reading. Reading records are checked on Tuesdays and Fridays and there will be rewards for regular readers!
Topic/English Topic or English homework is set on a Monday and due back by Thursday.
Maths Maths homework is set on a Friday and due back in by the following Wednesday.
Spellings Spellings are handed out on a Thursday and tested the following Thursday.
Our Greek Picnic
As a ‘Stunning Start’ to our Ancient Mediterranean topic, Year 5 will be sharing a Greek-themed picnic, taking place at school on the afternoon of Friday 14th September 2018. This will run for the whole afternoon and will be an opportunity to introduce children to some elements of Greek culture.
We are asking parents for a voluntary donation of some Greek food to share as part of the picnic. Food should be brought into school with the children on the morning of Friday 14th September and will be kept in a cool location until the picnic. Please ensure that all food is labelled with ingredients and allergens. As we are a nut free school, there must be no nuts in any of the food donated.
Ms Fleck is the substantive class teacher and is supported, throughout March 2019, by Miss McKie. Should you have anything you wish to bring directly to their attention, please use this form. Under our service standards, you should expect an answer within 3 school working days. Thank you.
