After a week of studying, analysing and planning ‘The Piano’ animation previously, the children have been writing their version of ‘The Piano’ in their books. The hard work has clearly paid off because both classes have produced some wonderful and moving flashbacks. The writing has been of a high standard as the children have focused on creating atmosphere (thinking of the reader), including fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrase and adding dialogue when needed. We have been really pleased with their work and we hope parents will be impressed when they come in to see their work for parents evening next term!
Over the half term break we would like the children to read a book of their choice and to have a go on the activities set on My Maths. However, it is important the children have an enjoyable break and to come back fresh and ready to go as we build towards the SATs (silly assessment tests!) in May.

This week year 6 have been focusing on their planning for extended writing next Monday. All week we have been watching the poignant animation ' The Piano' by Aidan Gibbons and trying to figure out what his 'flashbacks' are all about. The children have generated some wonderful ideas and developed some powerful emotions for this piece of writing. Some children have even started writing at home in their free time! As mentioned before, if you would like to have a look at this animation and help your child for their writing task, check the video online by typing in 'The Piano' by Aidan Gibbons. Year 6 continue to explore our 'light' topic in science as we looked at reflections and the angle of incidence. Next week we will be studying the eye with great detail and hopefully put right some misconceptions!
