On Friday 12th May Year 6 had their very own version of the popular TV show 'The Great British Bake Off.' In the morning they met the judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, went to collect the ingredients for their cookies and started the technical challenge! Whilst the cookies were baking they had time to relax and watch Cool Runnings before the show stopper in the afternoon where they had to decorate the cookies.
Scroll down to see all the pictures and to find out the winners!
Starting to decorate the cookies!
The judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry
The judges had a very tough job deciding who the winners were because all the cookies were so yummy. Paul was looking for a good 'snap' and Mary was making sure there were no 'soggy bottoms!'
Ethan, Faizan, Jai and Hamza won the prize for best teamwork- well done boys!
Ellen, Mica-Jo and Ambika won the prize for best presentation- well done girls!
Amy, Tegan, Eiliyah and Molly won the prize for the best tasting cookies- well done girls!
On Monday 15th May we had a very special delivery of 10 eggs. They weren't ordinary eggs that you can buy at Tesco, they were living eggs. Throughout Monday afternoon the children got to observe the eggs and write/draw what they saw.
On Tuesday 16th the children came into school very excited, hoping that some of the eggs had hatched but still, we had 10 eggs. They did notice that the eggs had moved and were more huddled together which meant there had been some movement!
Wednesday came and look what we found in the morning! 5 eggs had hatched into chicks and they were all healthy
Once the chicks have hatched they have to be kept in the incubator with their egg shell for 24 hours. Then they are transferred into the Brooder with food, water and warmth.
On Thursday 15th June Year 6 were lucky enough to visit Woolley Firs. We loved it so much that we wanted to go back for a second time! The sun was shining as we set off on our walk to get there. When we arrived we had a well deserved drink and a snack before going into the classroom for an introduction.
For 6AM's morning activity we went into the woods to find evidence of what species of animal lives there. We didn't necessarily see all the animals but we found footprints, feathers and bones! After this we walked to Fox Field to start our bug hunt! Each group had the right tools to collect the bugs and a number of pots to keep them safe in. Here's a list of all the animals we spotted:
In the afternoon we had a nice picnic lunch in the sun then went pond dipping which was really exciting!
On Tuesday 20th June 6AM walked to the Stafferton Lodge in Maidenhead. We did a number of activities such as putting our hand in a box to guess the fruit or vegetable and thinking of a fruit or vegetable for every letter of the alphabet. We learnt a lot about fruit and vegetables and how nutritious they are for our bodies.
We were even treated to a roast dinner and ice cream with sauce for pudding. Yum!
