In English, we are looking at stories from other cultures. If you can, try and read one as your reading book! I recommend Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters - I love that one! You could try our school library or either of the libraries in Maidenhead.

To finish off our unit on Islam in RE, Miss Azad visited to teach us some Arabic! Shukraan Miss Azad!

World Book Day! You all looked brilliant!

We spent some time with 3H (3 Finn Whale) and read together. We loved it and will try to do it once a week from now on!

*Evie - Superstar Writer*

As I sat in my living room this evening marking today's English work, I was blown away by how brilliant your Jeremy Strong style episodes were!

I was particularly impressed with Evie's and wanted to share it with you. Give her a pat on the back!:

'This is NOT a fairy tale - part two'

As Luke stormed back down the mountain, he began to disappear through the misty fog. I started to get worried about him, even though he had been horrid! Never mind that - he was getting away! I must find him! As I trekked down the mountain, my dress got caught on a branch. "Aaargh! Not my limited edition, skinny dress!" I groaned. Suddenly, a small troll rolled out from between the brambles and unhooked my dress for me which was very thoughtful of him (even if he did look disgusting!). I tumbled down the next path of the mountain and found that my dress had ripped to smithereens. My granny pants and vest were showing - Luke would never rescue me now!!

I loved how you made yours funny, Evie - just like Jeremy Strong!

Measuring fun in maths! We had to follow 5 different drink recipes for an astronaut to take to Space! We had to measure to the nearest half, convert between ML and L and add up totals of liquid used. We knew we’d been accurate if the drink colour was correct!

Gymnastics today! We learnt about counterbalances.

Although it was our first day back after the Christmas holidays, we wasted no time and got straight back in to some practical science on air resistance!

PANTO TIME!

We were surprised today with an hour of glow in the dark dodge ball! We were all very sweaty afterwards, especially when we competed against the teachers!

The last time it snowed, we would have been 5 years old! So of course we made the most of the flurry today ❄️

Ted, our lovely volunteer reader, surprised us by bringing his cockapoo, Monty, in today before he listened to readers. Monty was very shy and gentle 🐶

Well done to our brilliant year 5 readers this afternoon at our All Saints celebration! You read about St Christopher and Tim Peake beautifully.

Well done Lydia!

In English this week, the children were asked to write a story about a little boy who had rubbed a magic coin and shrunk! I was so impressed with Lydia's. Just look at her story opening!

I woke up with a cold shiver trickling down my spine. I felt like I was being held down with a thousand weights. I rubbed my eyes thinking it was just my cat, Goji, pawing at me but as I looked around the room, I noticed everything had grown...or had I shrunk? Oh no, I HAVE shrunk! I thought to myself that this all must have to be a horrible dream so I slapped myself around my cheek. "OUCH!" I cried. "This isn't a dream!"

I saw Goji slip into my humongous room. She jumped onto my bed and sat on my pillow which, by the way, was massive! Goji climbed onto my bedside table sending my water flying through the air, soaking my unfinished homework. Then she started playing with the magic penny. She tapped and kicked it and finally pushed it out of the window. "No!!" I shouted with my tiny voice. How would I ever get back to my normal size?

In RE, we're studying Sikhism and the importance of the Guru Granth Sahib. We spent the afternoon in the Maidenhead Gurdwara! We all covered our heads and spent time in a special room where the holy book is kept. Did you know they even put it to bed at the end of the day? Year 5 were so quiet, calm, reflective and respectful so we were very proud of each other.

Look at Emma and Nahia’s gymnastics sequence using this week’s objective of ‘rotations’. Amazing girls!

Goodbye Athishya!

We sadly had to say goodbye to one of our class members, Athishya, today as she moves to India on Friday. I am particularly sad to see her go as this is the second year she has been in my class! We know you will make lots of friends and be successful in whatever you do - we can't wait to receive your emails telling us what you've been up to!

Malghalara as Pandora!

In our Big Write this week, our task was to write from the point of view of Pandora from the story of Prometheus and Pandora.
Malghalara wrote a superb story and makes a fantastic actress, do you agree?!

Meet Boudicca!

We are LOVING learning about the Romans! Today we learnt about Queen Boudicca of the Iceni tribe- she was one brave lady. Let us introduce you to a few key characters in her rebellion...

In gymnastics we've learnt about balances, sequences and traveling. Here we are demonstrating all three!

In English this week, we role played the parts of Prometheus and Zeus at the point of the story where Prometheus is about to be chained to a rock for an eagle to peck at his liver! Eek!
